Safety tips for your Ballito stay.

Holiday season often brings more opportunistic crime at residential properties. An open or unlocked gate is an easy target, even in daylight. Keep gates closed, lock up, stay alert, and report anything that feels off.

Five habits that keep guests safer

These are the same holiday-season reminders Ballito Neighbourhood Watch shares with residents. They apply in complexes, free-standing homes, and guest houses.

01

Keep driveway gates closed at all times

Close the gate behind you when you arrive, leave, or wait for a delivery. An open gate is the easiest invite criminals look for, including during the day.

02

Lock security gates and doors, even at home

Lock sliding doors, patio gates, and the front door while you are inside, on the balcony, or in the pool. Do not leave keys in the lock or the gate remote on a hall table near a window.

03

Be alert to unfamiliar vehicles or activity

Notice cars that cruise the street more than once, people watching driveways, or anyone following you to the gate. Trust that instinct and get behind a closed gate first.

04

Report suspicious behaviour immediately

Call your complex security or armed-response provider first if you have their number, then SAPS. Share a clear description, the street, and the time. Do not wait to see what happens next.

05

Do not approach or confront suspected criminals

Get to a safe place, lock the gate, and phone it in. Neighbourhood Watch patrollers are eyes and ears only. Guests should do the same: observe, report, and stay out of harm's way.

Who to call

Report it. Do not engage.

Your host welcome note should include the complex control room or armed-response number for the property. Keep that number in your phone on arrival.

01

SAPS emergency

Life-threatening crime, a robbery in progress, or anyone in immediate danger.

02

Umhlali SAPS

The police station that covers Ballito for reports that are urgent but not a 10111 emergency.

03

Property security

Call the boom, control room, or armed-response number your host shared. They can close gates and dispatch a vehicle faster than a guest can.
